Prenatal Care

During your first prenatal appointments, we will take your health history, discuss options for and order genetic screening testing including ultrasound, and do initial blood work and urinalysis, a physical exam, and assess the need for a gynaecological exam including screening for cervical cancer and sexually transmitted infections. At subsequent prenatal visits we continue to monitor the baby’s growth, heart rate and position, do urinalysis, take your blood pressure and monitor the general health of you and your baby. We provide ongoing counselling on nutrition, exercise and various social and emotional aspects of pregnancy. We see you once a month until the 28th week, then every second week until the 36th week, and then weekly until the baby is born.
